Dr.Hahnemann was founder of Homoeopathy. He was experienced physician, competent chemist, a good mineralogist and botanist and an able translator of eight different languages. The medicine of that time consisted of leeching, purging and poisonous medicines, none of which worked. He decided he could no longer work as a doctor. As he was very good at languages, he worked as translator. Once he was translating Cullen’s Materia Medica, a renowned text book for doctors. He came to know a lot about Law of similia from that book. Actually, the law of similiars was previously described by Hippocrates and Paracelsus and was utilized by many cultures including the Mayans, Chinese, Greeks and Indians. But it was Dr.Hahnemann who codified the law of similars into a systematic medical science. He spent six years actively experimenting on himself, his family and a small but growing group of followers. In 1776, he wrote about his experiences with the law of similars in Hufeland’s Journal, a respected medical journal in Germany. He continued experiments whole his life to make Homoeopathy more and more effective.
